Bubbles

Did you know:

Soap bubbles blown into air that is below a temperature of 5° will freeze when they touch a surface. The air inside will gradually diffuse out, causing the bubble to crumple under its own weight.

At temperatures below about −13 °F, bubbles will freeze in the air and may shatter when hitting the ground. When, at this low temperature, a bubble is blown with warm breath, the bubble will freeze to an almost perfect sphere at first, but when the warm air cools and thus is reduced in volume there will be a partial collapse of the bubble. A bubble, blown successfully at this low temperature, will always be rather small in size: it will freeze quickly and continuing to blow will shatter the bubble.

Who knew that bubbles could possibly be more fun in Wisconsin than Texas! I just read this on Wikipedia and thought it was not only interesting, but an experiment I will have to try to duplicate first hand next winter, should the temperature drop that far (which I'm sure it will). Anyhow, even though it wasn't freezing, Alaina had a blast today blowing bubbles with Grammy. She bought Alaina a bubble gun which they used, but they also blew bubbles manually the old fashioned way. It is amazing that we now have the technology to make even the simplest things like blowing bubbles seem like work. The gun though is pretty cool. It blows one big bubble and little bubbles inside of the big bubble. Here is Grammy teaching Alaina how to use the gun:

It didn't take long for Alaina to learn how to use it by herself.

I love this picture! I just blew it up to an 8x10 inch photo for the frame with her current photo.

Leo was looking pretty darn upset that he was in the swing while Alaina was outside. Then again, maybe he was just mad because I stopped the swing to take a picture...

Now I know that Bandit was pretty mad that he wasn't outside chasing bubbles with Alaina!! He sat there by the gate the whole time that we were outside.

Wendy - Did you know I check this site almost every day and sometimes twice. I love the pictures.

Alaina and Leo are so cute I can't wait to see them.
